Black & Mixed-Heritage Women’s Wellbeing Forum

In 2021, we obtained funding to launch the Black & Mixed Heritage Wellbeing workshop, establishing a safe space for candid conversations free of judgment while respecting the sensitivities of diverse ethnic groups.

In the UK, Black and Mixed Heritage women confront a 58% heightened vulnerability to severe mental health issues. Our workshops are carefully crafted to enhance comprehension of mental health, recognizing its cues and symptoms, while also arming participants with techniques for stress management and prevention of mental health deterioration.

From an initial modest workshop endeavor, we have evolved into a sequence of regular monthly online assemblies. These sessions are enriched by guest speakers who delve into an array of pertinent topics affecting these women, including:

  • A comprehensive presentation by Birmingham Age UK, outlining their services and extending advice on critical aspects like Wills, Power of Attorney, and Trusts.
  • A poignant address from Cruse Bereavement Service, concentrating on navigating loss amidst the era of Covid-19 and beyond.
  • An inspiring narrative shared by an individual who transitioned from incarceration to achieving a PHD.
  • An introduction to Ayerverda holistic medicine.
  • Insights spotlighting the disconcerting high mortality rate within maternity care, underscoring the necessity for enhanced support and treatment standards.
  • A speaker serving as an Education Advocate, providing valuable support to Black parents grappling with issues like child custody battles, school exclusions, and the innovative concept of Healing Circles.
  • Guidance on buying land in Africa and Jamaica.

This journey has fostered an ongoing dialogue, presenting invaluable insights and practical strategies to embolden Black and Mixed Heritage women in their quest for comprehensive well-being.

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what one participant had to say:

Thank you for this fantastic service to humankind.

I had the honour of joining the course for ‘women’s mental well-being’. The course was hosted by Angela who delivered it with patience and sensitivity.

I learnt a great deal more depth on tactical steps to prevent anxieties with the ‘toolbox’ methodology.

This course however, is not enough to tackle the growing problem we now face in society, isolated to a one off here and there zoom in my humble opinion. We need one per month all year around for women , men and gender neutral people of all ages.

Can this be met? Can Angela be supported to conduct more throughout the year?
